Branding

Lisbon Oceanarium It is the second largest Oceanarium in the Iberian Peninsula, containing an extensive collection of species of birds, mammals, fish and other marine inhabitants. Opened in 1998, during the last world exhibition of the 20th century, entitled “The oceans, a heritage for the future”, the Lisbon Oceanarium consists of two buildings connected by a large forecourt: the original Edifício dos Oceanos (“Oceans Building”) and the new Edifício do Mar (“Sea Building”), which includes an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions, a new reception area for visitors and ticket offices, an auditorium and a restaurant.

Given its size, the Lisbon Oceanarium was struggling with a recurring situation: Many customers could not find the ticket office and the entrance, even with all the existing signs. Thus, Play Planet was challenged to design an effective signage that solved this problem. The solution was quite simple, the development and installation of giant arrows, visible even from a long distance, signalling the direction of the entrance.
