Around 70 to 75% of the national production of “cut flowers” is made in the municipality of Montijo, with the gerbera being the dominant species, occupying around 50 hectares of greenhouse. Montijo stands out as one of the largest producers of gerberas in Portugal, contributing significantly to the floriculture industry. The region’s favorable climate, with mild winters and moderate summers, provides ideal conditions for growing these vibrant, colorful flowers.
In addition to being an important economic activity for the region, the production of gerberas in Montijo contributes to the local beauty, transforming the fields into true gardens of vibrant tones. This sector not only boosts the local economy, but also highlights the region’s agricultural capacity, consolidating Montijo as one of the main hubs for gerbera production in Portugal.
Themed children’s equipment inspired by local culture and heritage plays a crucial role in promoting and preserving these elements. By playing on the themed equipment, children are exposed to the richness of the local heritage in a playful and educational way.
This was the motto for the development of Play in Art® products inspired by Gereberas, such as the “Gerbera Pot Land” activity tower ref. P20TF05, the inclusive spring “Gerbera Spring” ref. P20TF03 and the inclusive swing “Gerbera Swing Nest” ref. P20TF04, for the requalification of the Montijo Municipal Park.
A requalification that also focused on converting the existing park into a more inclusive space, with equipment for everyone, and accessible and sensory flooring.
