In March 2011 “Live it Well Events” company issued a challenge to Play Planet: Design and build an artificial beach in an area of 22.500m2 by the mount of “Our Lady of the Castle,” overlooking the mountain, in Mangualde, in the centre region of Portugal.

And what more: To do it in just 90 days!

The main objective of this pioneering concept in Europe, was to bring the beach experience to a city located in the interior of the country, far from the sea, which was lacking leisure options for the summer season, when it welcomes many tourists.

It was also intended to provide a fun place for the whole family, supported by various restoration options, daily beach activities, sport events, music concerts and nightlife.

Play Planet enthusiastically accepted this challenge, immediately undertaking the Design & Build of “Live Beach Mangualde, embracing the difficult task of, in such a short time, developing the design of the various specialties required for licensing the whole enclosure, as well as the construction of most infrastructures and the technical coordination of all construction work.

“Live Beach Mangualde” Design & Build Project comprised an area of 11.000m2 and 6500 tons of sand, a 60m long swimming pool and 945,000 liters of salt water, the design and construction of a restaurant with 120 seats and 5 fast food counters, a covered food court, 2 beach bars to support the bathers, 5 bars, a VIP building with panoramic terrace, several shops, an entrance porch with a ticket office and two main entrance gates, a playground, 2 stages for concerts and shows, a lifeguard watch tower, a beach lounge concession area with 12 “Bali beds” and all the green spaces of the enclosure, as well as support in decorating the whole compound and promoting some events.

The beach was opened at the 15th June as scheduled, scrupulously fulfilling the very short period of execution that was requested. Play Planet has shown that with hard work, rigorous planning and, above all, exemplary coordination of a tireless and motivated team, nothing is impossible.
